Logan Hospital’s newest cohort of midwifery graduates put their practical skills to the test during a recent Graduate Skills Day - the final step in their orientation.

The group, made up of 14 graduates from various universities, spent the day refining the skills they developed at university and during clinical placements.

Clinical Facilitator Sam Jorna said the graduates took part in pregnancy and birth-related simulations, helping them sharpen their abilities and build their confidence.

“The day focused on honing their skills and boosting their confidence as they prepare to step into their roles as independent midwives,” she said.

New graduates Sam, Dakota, and Chantelle were grouped together for the simulations and said the experience was a fantastic opportunity to practise their skills and seek guidance from the ‘experts'.

Over the next 12 months, the graduates will work closely with experienced midwives and Clinical Facilitators as they transition into the Women's and Children's Division.

They are among 180 new midwifery graduates beginning their careers with Queensland Health.
