First there was Sir Lift-A-Lot, then came Boomer and McCrane and now Logan residents are being asked to get creative again to name Logan Hospital’s two newest cranes!
The two 50-metre cranes are being installed this month ahead of the next stage of the Logan Hospital Expansion, which will deliver a new surgical and inpatient care building known as Building 4.
Executive Director of Logan Hospital, Anne Coccetti, said the competition is a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness of the campus expansion and for the community to put their personal stamp on the cranes helping to build stage 2 of the expansion.
“The first crane name will be chosen by a school class or student, with the second being chosen by a family from the Logan area or staff,” Ms Coccetti said.
“The two cranes will proudly feature the winning names for the duration of the project—and they will receive prizes sponsored by the project’s managing contractor John Holland.”
Entries are now open – simply fill in the online form with your idea.
There are separate categories for each crane:
- Crane 1: Open to primary and secondary students who attend school in the Logan region (entries to be submitted by parents or teachers)
- Crane 2: Open to all families and individuals who live in the Logan region or staff
Ms Coccetti said stage 2 of the expansion project would deliver an additional 112 beds and treatment spaces – significantly increasing the capacity of the hospital.
“We will add new operating theatres, an expanded pharmacy, a new sterilisation services unit, new front of house services and so much more.” she said.
“Stage 1 of the Logan Hospital Expansion Project delivered an additional 206 beds and treatment spaces, and upgrades to several existing services across the campus.”
“Almost all clinical upgrades have been delivered and Stage 1 of the Logan Hospital Expansion is expected to be completed in early 2025.
She said ten-year-old Myah from Cornubia and Isabella a registered nurse, previously crowned the twin cranes building the first stage of the hospital expansion.
“Myah and Isabella’s fun and creative names – Boomer and McCrane respectively, extends on the boom which is the arm of a crane and a playful reminder of a well-known advertisement (ahh McCrane…you’ve done it again).
“Their creative names were proudly displayed on the twin cranes for more than 12 months while we were building the first stage of the major expansion,” Ms Coccetti said.
