Young people living with diabetes gained valuable insights into their care at a recent event hosted by the Logan Endocrine and Diabetes Service (LEADS).
The event aimed to bring together youth and young adults living with Type 1 diabetes to learn, connect and engage in a supportive environment.
With more than 50 people in attendance, the day was deemed a success by the passionate LEADS team.
Clinical Nurse Consultant Melissa Lee who helped organise the event, said the team wanted to bridge the gap for those individuals transitioning from paediatric care to young adulthood.
“The event gave young people and their families access to a community of people on a similar health journey to them,” Melissa said.
“Participants gained valuable insights, accessed local resources, and heard the stories of clinic patients who attended as guest speakers."
With such positive feedback received from the community, the LEADS team are already busy planning follow-up events to continue empowering local young adults living with Type 1 diabetes.
