Logan Hospital has taken another step forward in its ‘green’ commitment by locating new Containers for Change bins across the campus and establishing a partnership with Substation 33.

Supported by Director of Corporate Services Scott Hughes, the Containers for Change program kicked off this week, with green bins appearing across Logan Hospital.

Scott said the program would further boost recycling efforts, reduce waste, and generate funds that go back into the hospital.

He said he was also looking forward to introducing the initiative at Beaudesert Hospital and Eight Mile Plains Satellite Hospital in the near future.

Under Scott’s direction to improve e-waste management, Assistant Manager of Environmental Services Dean Reynolds has also established a partnership with local social enterprise Substation 33.

Dean said he was excited about the impact of this initiative, felt as far afield as Papua New Guinea (PNG).

“Substation 33 repurposes our e-waste in innovative ways, including creating hearing aids to help people in PNG,” he said.

“The program also supports disadvantaged and long-term unemployed individuals, helping them gain confidence, social connection, and valuable skills. I was fortunate enough to see a young man making a hearing aid on a recent visit and was just blown away by his ability to create such an intricate piece of medical equipment.”
