Four nurses from the UK have started work at Logan Hospital as part of a Queensland Health international recruitment campaign.
A workforce strategy to recruit experienced nurses and midwives to support the Logan Hospital Expansion Program has resulted in Logan Hospital being the first in Metro South Health (MSH) to sponsor overseas nurses on four-year visas.
As part of the program, nurses Dhanya Sunny and Ruby Philip are working in the hospital's Emergency Department, Brilly Mathew is assigned to Ward 3A and Neepa Paul is at Ward 3DR.
Logan and Beaudesert Health Service (LBHS) acting assistant director of nursing Tracey McTigue said sponsoring international nurses and midwives brought in skilled staff with experience working in culturally diverse backgrounds.
"Many of the sponsored nurses have worked in one to two other countries before relocating to Australia," she said.
"More nurses are on the way, due to start in the next couple of months.
"We hope our first four nurses make Australia their home."
Relocation packages are being offered to experienced nurses and midwives overseas to work at Logan Hospital.
So far this year:
- 109 candidates were shortlisted for interview.
- 34 candidates have been interviewed.
- 16 candidates have accepted positions at LBHS.
- 9 of the 16 require visa sponsorship by LBHS.
International recruitment is one of the strategies that forms an integral component of the MSH Nursing and Midwifery Strategy 2022-2025.
