It’s a numbers game at QEII Hospital’s Finance Department, where Principal Business Manager Nick Bhatt reports on some of QEII’s most complex accounts.
Carving an early career path through the private sector, Nick worked as a Financial Accountant for 10 years before making the switch to health.
It was the call to a bigger challenge that led Nick to QEII in 2019, where he discovered his passion for Management Accounting.
“Health is one of the state’s largest portfolios. It’s very complex and very challenging. I really enjoy the challenge because it’s a constant balancing act between the financial aspect and patient services,” he said.
Keeping the books balanced with his extensive Finance acumen and a light-hearted sense of humour, Nick’s passion for numbers and for people is written all over his work.
But five years on, it’s the positive impact on the people his work ultimately supports that makes Nick’s day.
“The highlight of my day is interacting with clinicians, because by helping clinicians optimise their services, I can indirectly help our patients, which is what we’re here for.”
Multiplying his job satisfaction, Nick says the support he receives from his QEII team is second-to-none.
“QEII has a small hospital family vibe. Everyone knows everyone and the people here are really supportive, relatable and approachable. It’s different to some of the bigger hospitals, because you have the opportunity to really shine and make an impact here,” he said.
Many thanks to Nick for his commitment to optimising the numbers for the whole QEII community.
