More than 30 students from the Redland Coast were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Redland Hospital as part of an initiative to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Students Madison, Bridget, and Keeley who are studying a Certificate III in Health Support Services at TAFE Queensland's Alexandra Hills campus all enjoyed the day.
The event, organised by the Redlands Regional Jobs Network, offered students the opportunity to explore career paths within the health industry, from nursing and physiotherapy to operational support services which includes jobs like cleaners and security officers.
During the visit, students rotated through several hands-on learning sessions, gaining practical experience in critical areas of healthcare.These included basic life support simulations, maternity care, and demonstrations of nasogastric tube insertion.
Executive Director Greg Nolan said careers days like this contributed to building a strong future workforce.“It was great to host these students and meet some potential healthcare workers of tomorrow.
"Providing them with a first-hand look at the career opportunities across our hospital is not only informative but also inspiring,” he said.
In addition to the clinical sessions, students also toured the hospital’s operational services and learnt about the crucial roles of safety officers, cleaners, and maintenance staff.
TAFE educator Jared Elmers said that days like these were a huge benefit to students looking at potential careers.
"It opens their eyes to the different career paths available," he said."It’s been great for them to see behind the scenes; there are so many jobs in our local hospital that students may not have known about.”
