From the North Pole to the Neonatal Unit

Logan Neonatal Unit with Santa

Santa Claus himself jingled all the way to Logan Hospital yesterday, spreading festive cheer among its tiniest and most vulnerable patients.

Despite his jam-packed schedule, the big man in red made a special detour from the North Pole to visit (and snap some keepsake photos with) the families of 2N - Logan’s new Neonatal Unit -helping them celebrate their patients’ first-ever Christmas.

This heartwarming initiative brought the magic of Christmas right to the cots of precious babies who will either spend their first Christmas in hospital or who are too delicate to venture out to meet a shopping centre Santa.

It was a moment of pure holiday joy for all involved including those behind the idea, Registered Nurses Anne-Marie Noble and Jessica Murray.

With the enthusiastic support of Nurse Unit Manager Katharine Lawlor, the initiative took off faster than Rudolph guiding Santa’s sleigh through a starry Christmas Eve sky.

“This is truly the gift of Christmas spirit,” Kath said. “We are so excited to offer this opportunity to our wonderful families and hope to make it a regular tradition. Seeing the joy and smiles on their faces is the best present we could ever ask for.”

The Christmas magic was brought to life with the help of local fine art photographer Kylie Williams, who donated her time, talent, and a sleigh-load of festive props to make each photo extra special.

“We can’t thank Kylie enough for her generosity and creativity,” Kath said. “She’s truly sprinkled some Christmas magic into every photo. And of course, we’re incredibly grateful to Santa for squeezing us into his busiest time of year - we know he has a long ‘nice list’ to check twice!”

As the families of 2N unwrap this unforgettable gift, Logan’s Neonatal Unit team has reminded us all of the true meaning of the season - kindness.

Their flawless execution of the day, however, leaves us wondering if these nurses might secretly be moonlighting as Santa’s Christmas elves in disguise.
