William Lee is one of the many Bayside residents enjoying the benefits of having a new healthcare facility closer to home.
The Cleveland local became the first patient to receive cancer treatment at the new Redlands Satellite Hospital Cancer Day Therapy Unit this week and said receiving treatment locally gave him hours of his time back.
Mr Lee said it used to be a two-hour round trip to receive cancer care at Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) but now his driving time had been cut in half.
Not only that but Mr Lee said it no longer took an entire day to complete his immunotherapy appointments.
“Along with the commute to the PAH there is usually a lot of time spent waiting for and receiving treatment so we know to write the whole day off,” Mr Lee said.
“After my treatment at the new facility I’m wondering what to do for the rest of the day.”
Mr Lee said he didn’t think twice about agreeing to the transfer of his care from PAH to Redlands Satellite Hospital.
“I said yes right away and felt very excited,” he said.
When asked about his first impression of the new facility, Mr Lee said the space was well planned and looked terrific.
“It’s amazing and feels like I’m in a private hospital,” he said.
