Enhancing collaboration in cardiology

Hearts were racing with excitement in Logan’s Medical Imaging Department when they kicked off their ‘Peek and Learn Sessions’ for medical students this week.

Led by Senior Radiographer Rebecca Griffin, the new education sessions provide a snapshot into the world of cardiac MRI and give students firsthand exposure to MRI technology.

“This pioneering program aims to make complex cardiac imaging modalities understandable and accessible to students,” she said.

“We hope they will equip the next generation of medical professionals with essential knowledge and tools to better understand the possibilities and limitations of medical imaging which will lead to superior patient care and enhanced collaboration between departments.”

A small group of Griffith University medical students attended the inaugural session as part of their cardiology rotation and expressed their enthusiasm about the session.

Third year student Josiah Cheng said he found the tailored session enhanced his time on the ward by providing a greater understanding of both the imaging process and the cardiology department's relationship with medical imaging.

This sentiment was echoed by fellow third and fourth-year students Edwin Yang and Caitlin Thomas who said this kind of behind-the-scenes exposure and tailored education would play a key role in helping them decide on their specialties.

The medical imaging team would like to thank Chief MRI Radiographer Des Hardman and Director of Medical Imaging Mark Horder for their valuable support of the initiative.
