For Logan's Dr Janet Draper, delivering babies is more than a profession - it's a labour of love.
The Senior Staff Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) said even after 30 years in her profession, nothing compared to the joy of delivering babies.
Dr Draper said she was proud to have brought many Logan babies into the world and of giving their mum’s the best pregnancy and birth experience she could.
The dedicated clinician’s passion for medicine traces back to a decision made at just four-years-old, inspired by the compassionate care she received during multiple stints in hospital during her childhood.
“I wanted to be a doctor since I was in kindergarten because I had spent a lot of time in hospital as a young child and wanted to be like those who cared for me.”
Originally aiming for a career in paediatrics, Dr Draper said her path shifted during her fourth year of undergraduate studies when she discovered a preference for surgery.
“I witnessed a caesarean section through a viewing window of the then Royal Women's Hospital and was completely hooked,” she said.
“From that moment I was totally focussed on a career in O&G, ” she said.
The compassionate clinician has spent a significant portion of her three-decades-long career at Logan Hospital, having joined the team in 2007 and was recently awarded a 30-year Length of Service Award.
She said as well as being a passionate clinician, she was also passionate about teaching, training, and supporting students and doctors.
In addition to being a Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) training supervisor, Dr Draper said she recently applied for the RANZOG Examiners Board which would extend her love of teaching and training.
Congratulations on your 30 years of Service!
