Disability Nurse Navigator Greg Parrott proves that love knows no bounds when it comes to his commitment to enhancing patient outcomes.
Greg is highly regarded throughout 5A for his dedication to person-centred care and health equity for vulnerable patients, values which he has consistently demonstrated over the course of his 15+ year tenure at PAH.
In recognition of his exceptional dedication, Greg has been named the 2023 recipient of the Jan Kitchener LOVE (Living Our Values Everyday) Award, a legacy award that commemorates Jan’s commitment to nursing and celebrates nurses who exemplify the core values of Caring, Compassion, Respect, Integrity and Professionalism.
Greg’s empathic consideration for patients living with complex chronic, physical and mental health care needs, combined with his collaborative coordination skills and integrity are underscored in his nomination.
Staff describe Greg as exceptionally resourceful, innovative, and adaptable in all facets of his role.
But above all, Greg’s peers commend his unmatched commitment to breaking down healthcare access barriers faced by people with disabilities through his advocacy work.
Greg says the win was a surprise and an honour after five years in the role.
“It’s incredible. I had no idea I would be nominated, and I was very honoured,” he said.
As Greg proudly reflects on his career so far, he looks forward to a day where health equity is a reality for all.
“It’s great to work closely with people with a disability and be able to provide that valuable support.
“It’s about learning to agitate a little bit, to push for change in a positive way and bend the system where it can be bent a little.”
