In recognition of celebrating 50 years of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers in Queensland, Metro South Community and Oral Health acknowledged the Bayside Chronic Disease Health Workers this week for their invaluable contribution to delivering culturally responsive services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The Health Worker role is integral to improving the health outcomes of our communities which is seen through their high-level advocacy, support and cultural brokerage to assist our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients navigate a complex healthcare system.
Tahnee Weeks, Senior Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker at Bayside has dedicated fourteen years of service to her community.
"My inspiration is my people, they drive me to make their journey through the health system as comfortable as possible," Tahnee said.
Gina Murray, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker at Bayside and proud Kooma woman, swapped her corporate role for a career working with her Mob eight years ago.
"This is the most rewarding job I've ever had," Gina said.
"The Queensland Health Partnership with Yulu Burri Ba forms part of my every day work.
"I’m so proud to be part of the team working with the community and attending community events.
"As an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advanced Health Worker, I have been granted the privilege to work with the community and support our mob on their journeys for better health outcomes with Chronic Disease."
