Beaudesert Hospital has welcomed six talented graduate nurses to its team and the lucky bunch is the first to participate in an enhanced graduate program that includes a stint in the Emergency Department (ED).
For the first time, the nurses will spend six months of their 12-month graduate program in the dynamic environment of the ED, exposing them to all aspects of working in a rural facility.
ED Nursing Unit Manager (NUM) Debra MacFarlane said the new and improved program was the result of a growing community.
“As our community grows, so do the numbers of presentations to the hospital, especially the ED,” she said.
“The increased demand has enabled us to not only expand the scope of our program, but also to take on more new registered nurses than previous years.”
The graduate group said they were excited about experiencing all aspects of working in a rural facility and couldn’t wait to work closely with the education team and clinical staff at the hospital to further refine their skills.
