Anne Patterson retires after 46 years as a midwife

After 46 years in the profession, Beaudesert Hospital midwife Anne Patterson has clocked out of the delivery room for the last time.

With at least two decades of that time spent at ‘home’ in Beaudesert Hospital, Anne hasn’t just helped bring generations of locals into the world, she has watched them grow.

Anne said attending 21st birthdays, graduations, and other major milestones had been a favourite part of working and living in a rural community.

“These are the ones I remember and have had the joy of watching them grow up,” Anne said. “That is the best part of living and working in your own community.”

Anne’s passion for midwifery hasn’t faded, and she has already hinted at returning on an ‘as needed’ basis.

Anne, who had only just returned from a Christmas trip to Europe and the UK, said she looked forward to more travel in her retirement.
