Proud new parents Jessica and Trent have been showing off beautiful little four-week-old Taylor to Redland Hospital Midwife Shae Temple.

Jessica’s birth journey was part of Redland Hospital’s Midwifery Group Practice that provides continuity of care from a known midwife throughout pregnancy, birth, and the early weeks postpartum.

“Shae made a huge difference to my experience,” Jessica said. “It was a lot to be able to build trust in a person.

“Shae was part of my pregnancy from 16 weeks; we heard the baby’s first heartbeat together.

“When I had to have an emergency caesarean, I knew my baby was in safe hands,” she said.

New dad Trent said he was also grateful for Shae’s involvement in his daughter’s birth.

“As a new dad, and a man, it’s hard to understand everything. It was very scary watching Jess get wheeled in for surgery but having Shae there to explain made it a lot easier,” he said.

Jessica said she really valued the home visits as part of the program.

“The home visits were really great because they helped with anxiety through the whole process,” she said.

Midwife Shae said she loved her job as part of the MGP, particularly delivering health care in a way that helped reduce anxiety for parents and built a trusted relationship.

“It’s proven to lower rates of intervention and preterm birth and is associated with high rates of maternal satisfaction.”
