Bayside Health Service and the local heroes at Night Ninjas are upcycling unused dry goods and shelf-stable foods to support people across Redland City.

Executive Director Greg Nolan said the partnership was a way to help the community and slash waste all at once.

“We’re taking goods that would otherwise be thrown out and making sure they get to people who could use a little extra help," he said.

“Every year, about 180kg of food is donated - that’s a lot of brekkie cereals, coffee sachets, UHT milk and condiments, finding their way into the hands of people who can really use it.

“This isn't just about being eco-friendly; it's making a real difference in people’s lives, proving that reducing waste and doing good can go hand in hand,” he said.

Bayside Health Service Director of Corporate Services Heather Tyrrell said the hospital followed strict quality control measures before dry goods were passed on to Night Ninjas.

“We follow strict infection control requirements and make sure all items are suitable for donation in the care packages that Night Ninjas provide to the homeless.

“It’s good to see these items donated back to the local community and effectively recycled,” she said.

Night Ninjas President Jason Wornham thanked Redland Hospital for their contribution.

"At Night Ninjas, we believe in the power of community,” he said. “By coming together, our wonderful community makes a big impact through thousands of thoughtful actions each month.

“Every single item donated by Bayside Health Service brings us one step closer to supporting those in need and making our community a better place.”
