Baby Isabelle is Metro South Health’s first baby to receive the RSV immunisation at Redland Hospital.

It’s a busy time for Isabelle and her family as she recently headed home to them after she arrived a little bit early at 37 weeks.

Director of Paediatrics Dr Dougie Thomas stressed the crucial role of the RSV immunisation program.

“Protecting newborns from severe respiratory infections is vital, especially for those with underlying health conditions,” he said.

Isabelle's mum Cobie shared the excitement and challenges of welcoming their new addition into their bustling household.

“We have four children at home, from nine to 20-years-old,” she said.

“Everyone is excited to meet Isabelle.

“Isabelle is our first experience of a having a child with down syndrome.

“I would encourage other parents to have a good support system and learn as much as they can.

“It’s been a bit up and down, but the support from the Down Syndrome Association and the hospital has been incredible.

“We're managing well with bottle feeding and slowly progressing with breastfeeding.

“We hope being at home will help Isabelle thrive even more.”

Isabelle’s family look forward to her growing stronger and settling into their loving home.

The Queensland Government recently announced that newborn babies can get free RSV immunisation in Queensland birthing hospitals. For more information visit RSV immunisation.
