The 62nd annual PAH Health Symposium wrapped last Friday after four big days of keynote sessions and panel discussions centred around this year’s theme, Medicine and Wellness: Promoting whole of person well-being.
Attendance more than doubled since last year’s event, with more than 2,940 visitors across several key Queensland health services and research institutes. The committee were thrilled to again offer the hybrid event model in 2023, allowing delegates to participate both in-person and online. The keynote presentation by Dr Bethan Richards and Kurt Aaron Oration by Professor Fiona Wood received rave reviews, with some staff saying they would be rewatching these sessions again to get the most out of their presentations.
The award for most popular session went to 'The four Rs for the future healthcare workforce: recruitment, roles, retention, resilience', with 281 combined recorded attendances. Chaired by Prof John Upham of MSH Research, the session presented ideas on how we can future-proof our health care work force in a way that is sustainable and flexible to the developing needs of our health care system.
The highly anticipated Great Debate ranked second for number attendances hosting 268 people. The session tackled the topic “Is contemporary health care equipped to provide whole of person wellbeing?” featuring six passionate MSH staff including one Executive Director Dr. Jeremy Wellwood, challenging the status quo and pushing the time limit on their debates. The negative team took home the win, declaring that while COVID has shown us there is plenty of room for improvement, as a service we are unfailing in our effort towards providing world-class health care for our community.
The Symposium wrapped with the excitement of the Research Presentation Awards. The awards recognised up-and-coming researchers, clinical education excellence and the PAH staff member or team improving wellbeing at PAH. Congratulations to all who received or were nominated and a big thank you to everyone who contributed to making the Symposium a success.
