What our volunteers do
Our volunteers support our visitors, patients and our staff and do things like:
- welcoming visitors and helping them to find their way around
- spending time and helping patients who have been in hospital for a long time
- helping patients who arrive for clinical appointments
- helping new mums and babies
- helping us with routine office requests.
Who can apply
People of all abilities and cultural backgrounds can join our volunteer team, but you must:
- be at least 18 years old
- provide references
- have a criminal history check
- have a valid Working with Children Blue Card.
You'll also need to be vaccinated against measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough (pertussis) and chicken pox (varicella). We can help you get vaccinated before you start if you need to.
How volunteering works
Our service hours are 8 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday.
We work on a rotating roster. Shifts are 4 hours long, and you can choose to work longer hours if you'd like to.
We have free parking in our volunteer parking area.
We'll give you 2 trial shifts. If you choose to continue, we'll give you a permanent volunteer role. We ask that you commit to at least one shift per week as a permanent volunteer.
How to apply
Fill in and submit the volunteer application form.
We'll then be in touch to talk about your application and what volunteer roles we have.
Before you start
Before you start, we'll do your criminal history and reference checks. We'll need your written consent and proof of identity documents, such as your driver's licence, passport or proof of age card to do these.
You'll have orientation and training for the role you'll be doing.
Uniforms
Our volunteers wear a Metro South Health branded polo shirt.
